Paul Barret Jr. Library

The mission of the Paul Barret Jr. Library is to provide ready and efficient physical and bibliographic access to information consistent with the teaching and research interests of the Rhodes College faculty and the learning needs of Rhodes' students. Hanbury was responsible for the overall planning and design in association with Shepley Bulfinch, who was responsible for the library design features.
Dedicated in 2005, the 136,000-square-foot facility includes administration and information technology office spaces, classrooms, media viewing rooms, group study rooms, a 24-hour lounge and an academic computing and learning center. At the time of its dedication, the collection included 278,392 volumes, 1,159 print periodical subscriptions, 42,983 electronic books, 524 direct online journals plus over 10,000 full text journals through licensed databases, 95,000 microfilm/microfiche items, 11,000 audio visual items including phonodiscs, compact disks, DVDs and videotapes.
“I see this building as a major event in the life of Rhodes College.”
President William E. Troutt
